A Simple Poem

Poetry Lit LiteratureI confess that today is an abnormally busy day for me, so I have a very quick poem to share. It is from Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva, and it’s called “I am happy living simply.” She was writing between 1892 and 1941, which for me adds even more value to the poem below:

I am happy living simply:
like a clock, or a calendar.
Worldly pilgrim, thin,
wise—as any creature. To know

the spirit is my beloved. To come to things—swift
as a ray of light, or a look.
To live as I write: spare—the way
God asks me—and friends do not.
